What is Asperger’s Syndrome?
A developmental disorder from the spectrum of autism that is characterized by: impaired social interaction, repetitive patterns of behavior, and restricted interests, normal language and cognitive development, and often by above average performance in a field against a general background, a deficient-functioning – also called Asperger’s Disorder.
Aspergers is a high functioning form of Autism. Scientists aren’t sure what causes this, but they do know it is likely genetic. Aspergers is not caused by bad parenting or vaccinations. The brain is wired differently. The rules of social interaction don’t come naturally, and because of this, the person has to be explicitly taught how to interact with others.
People with Aspergers also have sensory issues. This includes auditory, visual, and tactile sensitivities. The characteristics are going to be specific with each individual.
